Casting Call: Jill Dobson

Remember just yesterday, when I expressed my desire to join the cast of The Talk? It seems the universe heard my plea! Today Page Six reports that a whopping three seats could open up on the daytime talk show. That's plenty of room for me! No matter how much baby weight I gain, I seriously doubt I'll ever need more than two seats!

While I'm thrilled to hear the popular talk show may have an opening, I must take issue with the Page Six story for speaking ill of my girl Julie Chen. As a fellow member of The Early Show team, I have nothing but respect for Julie. The talk show world needs more experienced journalists, like Julie, to shed light on the major news stories of the day. Speaking of experience, have I mentioned my decade as a journalist, covering everything from hard news to entertainment? Just one more reason why Sara Gilbert and rest of the team should give me a shot at one (or two) seats on the panel!

I can speak to the news headlines of the days, I can hold my own in a panel discussion (even with the wacky Red Eye guys) and I'm more than ready to have The Talk with Jada Pinkett Smith about marriage, Jessica Alba about babies, and Gene Simmons* about rock 'n roll! I've got plenty of life experiences to help me add to the discussion, from my career experiences, to my marriage and upcoming baby (due later this year), to my years as an improv comedy performer.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go call my agent... right after I tune in to The Talk. It starts in 1 minute! Quick, somebody hand me the remote!

*I've actually interviewed Gene Simmons before. That guy is a handful! Or perhaps "handsy" is a more accurate description. Wowza. Significantly less grabby was the beautiful Jessica Alba, whom I interviewed during her first pregnancy, at the 2008 Academy Awards. You demand proof? OK. Here's a lovely photo of the back of my head, during my Alba interview:

  2. You'd fit right in... your irreverent humor would mix nicely with Sara Gilbert's, your journalism background would make you a good fit with Julie Chen, and since you can handle the Red Eye guys, you can handle any crazy guests, even Gene Simmons! Go for it!

  3. All the Red Eye viewers would start watching The Talk... so tell CBS you'd bring a new batch of male viewers to the show! (Bonus: unlike Red Eye, it's actually on when we're awake!!!)

  4. I would love to see you on that show! Who do you want me to write a letter to? I have enjoyed following your career ever since you were in my 2nd grade classroom. Go for it Jill. You'd be perfect for that job!

  5. Thanks for the supportive comments! Did you guys see that I got one from my 2nd grade reading teacher, Mrs. Rutenbar? How awesome is that?!! Thanks Mrs. R -- and David, Becky and DJ -- for your kind words! How many comments do we need before I can tell CBS there's a "major grassroots campaign" behind me? Seven? Cool - we're more than halfway there! :)

  6. Jill, I love following your blog! And can also attest to a full viewing of The Talk a couple times a week. You would fit right in, don't forget your Junior Miss following, you could certainly get a few thousand viewers off that tag line alone. Hey it worked for Diane Sawyer!

  8. A "Grassroots Campaign" isn't a bad idea! Maybe we should start a FB "Make Jill Dobson one of the new hosts on The Talk" group!
